TO LIVE,IS TO DIE

Image
Sometimes, I am convinced earth, just like hades, Kur or Sheol is another name for hell, if it’s not then maybe it’s just a part of it. If they are two different worlds then the only difference must be that with the earth there is an escape door from all the suffering while with ‘hell’ well, there is no escape door, just eternal suffering. But then again, all the years you spend on earth suffering until you die, those years are considered  your eternity. To escape from all the suffering, to find the peace you must die and to die you must suffer too. Only a few we say, are lucky enough to die peacefully, or so we assume because we can never really tell if they struggled for their last breath or simply breathe their last. Get sick and slowly escape or do it quickly and at once like drink yourself to death, get hit by a car, get involved in an accident, commit suicide, or die straight from birth. You accidentally step on an ant and think poor creature didn’t see that coming, only to ...

THE " BABY" IN US

Image
THE “BABY” IN US  Disclaimer: I am not a member of The Consortium of Ancient nor do I  represent their views (ref The Boss Baby cartoon). ha-ha. You are such a big baby! Don’t be a baby! Can be some of the most hurtful words which are thrown at us when the other party thinks we are being too fragile, needy, and seeking more attention than necessary. We perceive it as an insult I mean which adult would want to be compared to a baby, a baby who can’t form comprehensible sentences, who crawls towards the fire or a bucket full of water, a baby who wears a diaper. But if we were to look within us, aren’t we all indeed just big babies?  A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that when my baby sister, who is about a year old enters my room, I drop everything and give her my full attention, the case is entirely different though when my teenage brother enters my room. I don’t stop looking at my phone, don’t pause the movies or close my laptop, I don’t turn to look at him, I...

IMPOSTER SYNDROME IS REAL.

Image
“Do not speak bad of yourself. For the warrior within hears yours words and is lessened by them” old- Japanese samurai proverb Do I really qualify? I bet there are more qualified individuals than I am, I don’t even understand why I was picked for this, maybe I was merely picked by chance,? Endless doubts, more questions, followed by disappointment. I am sure some of you know what I am talking. remember each time you were invited for an interview and you thought you just got lucky and didn’t deserve it? You couldn’t tell anyone because it would sound absurd since no one forced you to apply for the job and you know you are more than qualified for the job. Often, you have felt t that you don’t deserve to be where you are or that it was luck which got you where you are, nothing more. You even feel guilty for  the awards , the recognition, success and the compliments   because you think  someone more deserving  should be in your place, you think someone some...

STREET HARASSMENT, Let’s Talk.

Image
billypenn.com On my way to visit a friend just a couple of blocks away, I passed a group of boys they were about 8 of them. I was so busy with my phone that it took me a few seconds to realize the loud voices I heard were in fact directed at me. One of them called out “Hey” and another, then another, having been in a similar situation before I decided to just ignore them. But being ignored didn’t make them stop. One of them called dumb as the other one called me ugly. I wasn’t scared until one of the boys threatened to hit me with a brick for not responding. I told my friend, a guy what happened and he casually responded that they were probably drunk or high on weed, he said it in a way that sounded like it wasn’t their fault, and they too were victims. That was just one example of how I have been a victim of street harassment. Street Harassment can be defined as harassment done in public primarily by male strangers to females in public (Urban Dictionary). Som...

Who Is Your Time Keeper?

Image
Remember the time keepers at school? The only ones authorized to carry and ring the bell. The ones letting  us know when class begins, ends, notified us when it was time to take a break, knock off etc. They followed the class time table as well as the school's time table.  If your time was running slower or faster than the time keeper's,you were the one who had to adjust because a  keeper's clock was never wrong. Wikepedia defines a Time Keeper as someone who measures time with assistance of a  clock or stopwatch,she/he records time, time taken or time remaining.  If you have ever been in a class like me, or have been involved in a race/competition you must perfectly remember the time keeper.  Like many others, i have made a mistake before,.i once  trusted society to be my time keeper.I often felt as if i was running out of time like a student who has realised is late for class right after the bell  rings. I wasn't   getting a job f...

WHY NOT COMMERCIALISE SISAL PRODUCTION IN MALAWI?

Did you know that around 1920s there was actually a sisal estate in the Lower Shire?  Ever since, there has not been any record on commercial sisal production anywhere else in the country. Sisal production is only reported at local farm level and it has continued to dwindle over the past centuries even at that level. Sisal is a fibre of Agave species; it is a widely cultivated and naturalised fibre in many countries like South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique, Angola, Madagascar, Venezuala and Brazil. Sisal yields a stiff fibre that is used in making products which are highly used around the globe. In the past, several species of Agave were used for fibre production, but presently it is a commercially grown species in different countries.Sisal is locally known as Khonje in many parts of the country. It is mostly used for ornamental practices especially in urban areas, it is also preferably used for fencing dimba gardens in the rural areas to keep away livestock from crops and on a sm...

ROADBLOCKS NO LONGER ROADBLOCKS

Image
A lot of   us have been affected by road accidents which have claimed the   lives   of our relatives, close friends, friends of our friends and other people     we have never heard of ,sadly ,the number increases by the day. I was very shocked when I read a report commissioned by the Malawi’s National Road Safety Council which says out of 18000 registered vehicles in Malawi at least 1200 of them get involved in road accidents which are mainly caused by over speeding, overloading and drunken or unlicensed drivers, of course the number may seem less but come to think of those who have lost their lives or get physically hurt. There are a lot of roadblocks along a lot of roads here in Malawi to help control traffic but, each time I went through roadblock I always got disappointed at how different cases were being handled.   My thoughts reel back to one of the days I was traveling from town to school, I don’t like traveling but how can it be avo...
